Trump to Address Blockworks Digital Asset Summit in Landmark Crypto Speech

Donald Trump will speak at Blockworks’ Digital Asset Summit in New York on March 20, marking the first time a sitting US president has addressed a cryptocurrency conference. His appearance signals a shift in US crypto policy, contrasting with the enforcement-heavy approach under Joe Biden. Trump has taken pro-crypto steps since assuming office, including forming a White House crypto advisory team and establishing a US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. BlackRock Executive Challenges Bitcoin’s Risk-On Label Amid Market Volatility

BlackRock’s Digital Asset Head Robert Mitchnick pushed back against the perception of Bitcoin as a risky investment, arguing that the industry itself has fueled this narrative. Speaking on CNBC, he emphasized Bitcoin’s scarcity, decentralization, and non-sovereign nature, asserting that economic fears and tariffs shouldn’t inherently impact its value. Despite recent price declines, Bitcoin remains up 15% since November. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has led institutional adoption, amassing $46.5 billion in assets and becoming the fastest-growing ETF in history.

Ethereum to Retire Holesky Testnet After Pectra Upgrade Setbacks

The Ethereum Foundation has announced plans to shut down the Holesky test network by September 30 following issues with testing the upcoming Pectra upgrade. Holesky, launched to support Ethereum’s validator ecosystem, suffered from inactivity leaks after a failed test in February, making it impractical for further development. Its newly launched replacement, the Hoodi testnet, will take over and is scheduled to test Pectra on March 26. If successful, developers plan to deploy the upgrade to Ethereum’s mainnet 30 days later.

First Solana Futures ETFs Set to Launch Amid Spot ETF Speculation

Volatility Shares LLC is introducing two exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking Solana futures on Thursday, marking the first such products for the cryptocurrency. The Volatility Shares Solana ETF (SOLZ) will track Solana futures, while the 2X Solana ETF (SOLT) will provide leveraged exposure, with management fees of 0.95% and 1.85%, respectively. The launch could pave the way for a spot Solana ETF, as the SEC has historically required an established futures market before approving spot crypto funds. Analysts estimate a 75% chance of approval by year-end, though a decision may hinge on SEC leadership changes.
